On January 30th. at around 11:00 CET (10:00 GMT), our hosting provider will begin moving out servers and racks to a different datacenter. This is due to new and better deals, when it comes to the increase in energy prices, but also network bandwidth costs.
It will take time to take down all the hardware and move it to a new location, as well as setting it up again in the new place. Everything will be prepared as much as possible to reduce downtime. However the provider estimates, that it could take up to 8 hours to complete the process.
All servers and IP addresses will remain the same, since they have their own BGP network and routers.
Secure Gateway staff will capture manual backups of all client data, in case something goes wrong with the move. These backups will also be made available to clients on request of course.
We will talk to each client to figure out, if they are ok with the downtime, or if we need to migrate them to a temporary solution, while their usual servers are down.
While it always suck with prolonged downtime, the current state of the world and the european energy crisis, would eventually cost more money for the clients. So we feel that this step our provider is taking, is the right one, to keep up the cost/benefit ratio.
